I am a 54-year-old, menopausal, run loving foodie with a wonky shoulder who believes Pilates is the best thing since sliced bread (gluten-free of course)!  In my opinion, age is just a number and despite the challenges we face, I believe we can make a significant difference in how we look and feel through focussed exercise and nutrition! That’s me in a nutshell!

I have been practising Pilates for a number of years but since confronting the “surgical menopause” 4 years ago, which literally hit me like a train, I discovered regular practice not only helped with the unfortunate aches and pains but had a profound impact on my running performance.  Not a natural runner, I have had to work hard at it but with improved core strength discovered I was actually winning my age category in some competitions which had never been heard of before!

Determined to help others and “share the Pilates love”, I embarked on an Instructors course, throwing myself into the deep realms of anatomy and physiology something I had not even ventured into at school so a complete novice!  It was a steep learning curve but one I really enjoyed and was making good progress until facing another physical obstacle!  I had a nasty road bike accident resulting in numerous breaks in my shoulder and several operations which curtailed the training.

The stubborn patient that I was, refusing to take it easy and feel sorry for myself, I undertook and passed an e-learning Advanced Diploma in Nutrition and Weight Management which went hand in hand with my love of food, wellbeing, and exercise.

After hard graft and loads of rehab, I was able to pick up the Pilates training again and eventually qualified as a Basic Mat Pilates (VTCT) Instructor and started teaching part-time alongside my job of 25 years in Logistics. In August 2019 was made redundant so decided to make Pilates my new career and am currently teaching over 13 classes, along with several 1:2:1’s a week, to a real variety of clients from runners, cyclists or clients who just want to try it and end up loving it; not just the physical aspects but the social and relaxation benefits too!

Since setting up my first classes, I have continued my Pilates education, taking several courses with the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute - World leading providers of Physiotherapy and Pilates Education – including Small Apparatus, Pilates for Running, Pilates for Cyclists and Pilates for Shoulder Rehab.
